Petra Summer Program (PSP) 2024: The Cultural Mosaic of Indonesia

This summer, start something new. Spend your summer in Surabaya joining Petra Summer Program (PSP) 2024. This summer program provides students a great opportunity to be immersed in the cultural diversities of Indonesia. Designed as a fun-filled academic activity, PSP 2024 combines learning with exciting cultural exploration and engaging extracurricular experiences, which can give participants enriching summer.
PSP 2024 offers five courses to choose, each lasting two weeks.

  1. Indonesian Culinary Arts, where students learn Indonesian culinary culture and practices
  2. Special Program for Industrial Challenge & Exposure (SPICE), which offers a blend of class-based learning, industry visits, and collaborative hands-on projects.
  3. Indonesian Language and Culture (ILC), in which students experience the beauty of Indonesian language and culture
  4. Connecting the Bridge - 交相辉映, which provides an examination of Indonesian and Chinese cultures that gives students insights into the connection between Indonesian and Chinese societies.
  5. Chinese Indonesian Studies, which is a short course introducing the many facets of Chinese Indonesian community

Chinese - Indonesian Studies Summer Program

Dive into the rich heritage and contemporary dynamics of the Chinese Indonesian community in our intensive two-week program at Petra Christian University. This English-medium course, a collaboration between the Center for Chinese Indonesian Studies and the General Education Department, combines expert-led lectures, immersive field trips, and cultural workshops. It offers a unique opportunity to understand the historical significance, cultural richness, and current challenges faced by the Chinese Indonesian community, providing both theoretical knowledge and practical experiences.

The Indonesian Culinary Arts Program delves into Indonesia's rich culinary culture, focusing on diverse ingredients, herb/spice usage, and unique cooking methods. International and PCU students collaborate, engaging in cooking, cultural exchange, Bahasa Indonesia practice, and local interactions. By the program's end, participants craft fusion dishes using Indonesian flavors, gaining insights into Surabaya's culinary traditions.

Immerse yourself in a vibrant cultural exchange with "Connecting the Bridge 2024," a dynamic collaborative program bridging Indonesian and Chinese cultures. This unique initiative is designed to foster collaboration between Indonesian and international students, creating a platform where they can work together on shared projects. The program offers an in-depth exploration of both Indonesian and Chinese cultures, covering various aspects such as history, arts, traditions, and contemporary societal trends. Delivered in Mandarin and Indonesian with translations available, the course ensures an inclusive learning environment. Participants will gain hands-on experience through interactive workshops and field trips, enhancing their understanding of both cultures in a practical setting.
